Kidney Health Diet |
|
According to the National Institutes of Health, Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) patients should monitor the following nutrients:
✅ Sodium ✅ Potassium ✅ Protein ✅ Saturated fat ✅ Alcohol ❌ Phosphorus
We track the nutrients with green checkmarks✅.
Since phosphorus is not required on Nutrition Facts labels, the data simply isn't available for most foods. If the FDA begins requiring phosphorus on food packaging, we will add the feature as soon as we can collect the data.
To learn more about phosphorus, please see the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) publication linked below:

For long-term nutrient analysis, we recommend building charts.
- Log in to your account.
- Go to the Analysis page.
- Select the Charts button in the Food section.
- Choose a nutrient from the dropdown list.
- Select the Customize link.
- Expand the date range. Group data by week, month, or year (depending on the length of the date range).
Grouping your data by week, month, or year smooths out your data so you can see long-term trends. |
|
Editing Most Eaten & Recent Lists |
|
The Most Eaten and Recent lists are automatically generated. Over time, foods you no longer eat will fall off the lists, but you cannot manually remove foods. In contrast, the Favorites list can be customized however you like. You can add and remove foods from Favorites by opening a food and selecting or deselecting the star icon. |
|
Logging Dietary Supplements |
|
You can log supplements just like any other food. Start by searching our food database to see if we have your supplement listed. If we don't have it, you can create it using our "Create Food" tool. Since you'd ideally receive all your nutritional needs from food, we recommend waiting until the end of the day to log your supplements. This approach lets you see how close you were to your nutrient goals with only food. |
|
Editing Foods You Created |
|
You can edit/delete foods you created by following these steps:
- Log in to your account.
- Click the menu icon in the top right.
- Choose My Data.
- Select Edit Foods & Recipes.
- Select the food you would like to edit/delete.
- To edit, complete and submit the form. To delete, scroll down and click the Delete button.
|
|
Sorting Favorites, Recent & Most Eaten Lists |
|
There isn't a way to sort or rearrange the Favorites, Recent, or Most Eaten lists. We recommend using the filter tool at the top of these pages. You can type a few letters to quickly filter the list, which is much quicker than scrolling through a sorted list. |
Exercise Section |
|
Using the Exercise Log |
|
When your account is new, you will be asked a simple question: "Do you know how many calories you burned?" Click either the "yes" or "no" button.
NO If you do not know how many calories you burned, our system can estimate the calories burned for over 700 activities.
YES If your exercise equipment shows the calories burned, you will need to first add the machine or device to your account (for example, an exercise machine or heart rate monitor). Once you've added it, you can log your minutes of exercise and calories burned.
FUTURE ACTIVITIES The Exercise Log will automatically list your recent activities, allowing you to add items quickly. If you need to add an activity that isn't included in the list, you can scroll down and repeat the process mentioned above by indicating whether or not you know how many calories you burned. |
|
Adding a New Exercise |
|
Here are the steps for adding a new activity to the Exercise Log:
- Answer yes when asked, "Do you know how many calories you burned?"
- Select the Add/Edit Sources.
- Enter a name for the new source (examples: Elliptical Trainer, Heart Rate Monitor, and Peloton Bike).
- Select the add source button.
The new activity will appear as an option when you answer "yes" to the question about whether or not you know how many calories were burned. |
|
Logging Steps in the Exercise Log |
|
While you can't log your steps directly into the Exercise Log, you can estimate your minutes and calories burned by doing a little math. Please follow these steps to properly set up your account for using your daily steps to estimate your daily calories burned:
- First, you will need to set your baseline activity level to "sedentary." This way, you won't double-count your steps. To do this, click the menu icon at the top right, choose Settings, select Lifestyle, and then change your base activity level to sedentary. Now, you are ready to log your steps.
- Since most people burn one calorie every 20 steps, you will need to divide your steps by 20 to estimate your calories burned.
- Now divide your steps by 6,000 to estimate the hours spent walking.
Example:If you walk 10,000 steps daily, you would enter 500 calories (10,000 / 20) and 1.67 hours (10,000 / 6,000). The instructions make it sound more difficult and time-consuming than it is. Once you set up everything, you just need to do the two division problems and enter your calories and minutes. |
